Countdown to the Oscars – our picks for Film Editing

The 84th showing of the Academy Awards will air on ABC on Sunday the 26th of February and we at Geek for E have decided to join in on the fun and give you our predictions of who will win.

Today we are going to look at Film Editing. Film Editing is the art of making sure that the story flows no matter if liner, out of order, or in reverse with the images that are on the screen in front of us. A bad edit or jumpy movie can ruin the experience and distract from the story.
And with that…the nominations go to…
FILM EDITING …the nominations go to:
“The Artist”
“The Descendants”
“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”
“Hugo”
“Moneyball”

Denise: Most likely this award will go to The Artist, but I love the playful cutaways and intense back-and-forth shots of The Descendants.

Tatiana: I’m going to go with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Rock: I concur with Denise, easily The Artist.  If only because it has be twice as difficult in this day and age of digital film cutting and splicing to reproduce the old cut/splices of the era.  Jump cuts, scratchy frames and that sub 30fps motion we love so much.  As a film editor (and I love these guys too), you’d have to unlearn to cut this movie, and it looks fantastic on screen.

Alex: Have to jump on the boat and take the cruise with The Artist.  A movie like this has to rely on editing to help tell the story.

Score card…
Denise – The Artist
Tatiana – The Girl with the Dragon Tatto
Rock – The Artist
Alex – The Artist
