Geek For E!

Countdown to the Oscars – our picks for Actress in a Leading Role

The 84th showing of the Academy Awards will air on ABC on Sunday the 26th of February and we at Geek for E have decided to join in on the fun and give you our predictions of who will win.

Today we continue our push to the Oscars and the big 6! That’s right, the categories we’ve been waiting for. And the push continues as we make our picks for Actress in a Leading Role.
And with that…the nominations go to…

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE …the nominations go to:
Glenn Close for “Albert Nobbs”
Viola Davis for “The Help”
Rooney Mara for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”
Meryl Streep for “The Iron Lady”
Michelle Williams for “My Week with Marilyn”

Alex:  This is a hard category to pick from and because of that I had to think about the names that were selected. A few have been here before and some are new to the category. With that I have to give it to Viola Davis for The Help.

Denise: Too close to call.  Much love for Williams’ Marilyn Monroe, Mara’s raw arsekicker, and of course Davis’ touching performance.  Oh heck; Viola Davis for The Help.  I’ll bet she’s on a roll this year.

Matthew: Although I am not sure she should, I would be surprised if Rooney doesn’t win. I am rooting for Glenn Close on this one.

Tatiana: Mara FOR SURE. It takes a lot of guts to act out what she did on screen. I’m not taking anything away from Viola Davis and the subject matter The Help deals with. But Rooney Mara has some chops, demonstrated them in this movie, and deserves the credit for it.

Rock: I think it has to be Michelle Williams for Marilyn.  She was amazing and I was transfixed.  What set the performance apart for me wasn’t simply her look, it was her accessibility to the inner Marilyn that the film exposes.  Vulnerability, weakness, whimsical love – she’s the goods.

Score card…
Alex – Viola Davis for “The Help”
Denise – Viola Davis for “The Help”
Matthew – Glenn Close for “Albert Nobbs”
Tatiana – Rooney Mara for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”
Rock – Michelle Williams for “My Week with Marilyn”
