Beautiful Creatures to open Valentines Day

Fans of the Caster Chronicles series will be in love this Valentine’s Day, as the film version of the first book, Beautiful Creatures, is moved to a Valentine’s Day opening.  The series (written by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl) — about a young girl who must choose between good and evil, and the boy who has a haunting connection to her  — has been called “The Next Twilight”, but I’d rather just call it a great new series for fans of gothic/paranormal YA fiction.

There are high hopes for the film franchise, but with the final book of the series, Beautiful Redemption, recently published, I’ll bet there will be a stampede of fans to the theaters.  But with Beautiful Creatures and Safe Haven both coming out on the 14th of February, what’s a romance fan to do?  Maybe it’s double-feature time?  Because as pretty as Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough, I’m looking forward to seeing Emily Rossum, Emma Thompson and Jeremy Irons unleash some witchy whup-ass.

Abracadabra — it’s The Incredible Burt Wonderstone!

Who didn’t want to be a magician when they were a kid?  Oh come on; you know you wished you’d gotten a letter from Hogwarts, or at least received a magic tricks box for your birthday.  The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is a film about two kids that got that birthday present…and cranked it to 11.

What really makes me want to see this is the fact that they’ve cast Steve Carell and Steve Buscemi as the grown-up kids that find their Sigfried & Roy-like Vegas life in jeopardy when young upstart Steve Gray (played by Jim Carrey) comes to town.  So basically you know you’ll get to see all three of these guys off their leash.  Which should be awesome.

Take a peek at the trailer and tell me what you think.  The Incredible Burt Wonderstone opens March 15th, 2013.

New images for House At The End Of The Street

The weather is cool.  There’s a breeze in the air.  And sure, there’s a tornado watch today but for me?  It’s time to get creepy.  Lucky for me that Relativity Media released some new photos for the scare-fest House at the End of the Street.

From IMDb/Relativity Media:

Newly divorced Sarah and her daughter Elissa find the house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town. But when startling and unexplainable events begin to happen, Sarah and Elissa learn the town is in the shadows of a chilling secret.

Take a peek at the pics, and stay tuned for my review this Friday….

Help a Baltimore singer “Sparkle”!

Sparkle.  The movie is starring Jordin Sparks and Whitney Houston.  Great voices, right?  Well, a few weeks ago I wrote about the Sparkle Singing Challenge that was to be held here in Baltimore.  And we have a winner — congratulations to Quinten White!

Total Recall lets you “Rekall”

When Ah-nold said “I’ll be back”, he probably didn’t realize his movies would be coming back too.  So far the first go at re-doing his oeuvre hasn’t exactly been a genre classic (Conan?  Single-handedly flushed Jason Momoa’s breakout chances down the loo.  Pity.)

But things are looking up with the new spin on Total Recall; the trailer looks like they’re getting it right this time.  Plus, having tried-and-true big screen actors like Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Bryan Cranston doesn’t hurt.

Wanna get in on the Recall action?  Well, there may not be an app for that (yet), but there’s definitely a game you can check out….

Angelina Jolie is feeling evil as Malificent

Angelina Jolie has a love for the, well, complicated ladies.  Evelyn Salt (glad to see there’s a Salt 2 in the mix), The Tourist‘s Elise, Grendel’s momma in Beowulf, and of course her Oscar-winning turn as Lisa in Girl, Interrupted.  She’s upping the evil as Sleeping Beauty’s nemesis in Malificent.

Gotta say that I was amazed and scared pantsless by this particular witchy queen.  Best evil hairdo ever?  yeah, you better believe it.  Plus, she could transform into one badass dragon; that’s pretty top-notch.

Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough To Star in Safe Haven

I’m not what you’d call a chick-chick.  But I have to admit I’ve seen my fair share of chick movies.  But I do love Josh Duhamel (he was very enjoyable in Transformers and Life As We Know It) and Julianne Hough (stop it, I liked the new Footloose!), so when I heard the director of Chocolat is putting his not-too-sappy style to a film version of Nicholas Sparks’ Safe Haven?  Gotta say I’m intrigued.
